Maintenance

Air Filters

Your air handler is located (in almost all apartments) in the same closet as your washer and dryer. You should replace your air filter once a month. Consider using a HEPA air filter if you have allergies.

Floor Care

Normal cleaning can be done with a regular broom or vacuum cleaner. If necessary you can also use a well wrung out mop or rag with some cleaning material in it. Do not wax! Do not use too much water! Spots and liquids are to be removed immediately. Dirt and water should be avoided by using doormats at the front door and balconies. Avoid using the floor with high heels. Solvents and ammoniac can damage the sealing

Light Bulbs

All light fixtures in your apartment use compact flourescent light bulbs (CFLs). CFLs are 75% more energy efficient than a typical incandescent bulb, and can last up to 10 times as long. When replacing your CFL bulbs, be sure to dispose of the old bulbs appropriately. They should not be thrown away, but rather can be recycled at (for example) Home Depot.

Wall Hangings

Please do not hang items on your walls using anything sticky or with putty. Please use small hanging nails or picture hangers to avoid unnecessary wall damage. Install these picture framing hooks at an anagle to avoid piercing plumbing lines behind the drywall of your apartment.

Granite Counters

Please do not sit on the counter overhangs in your kitchen or on the bathroom vanities, as they are not intended to be load-bearing. Avoid using cleaners with ammonia, bleach, acids, or other all-purpose cleaners on your granite counters. It is important to clean all spills and avoid leaving unwrapped foods on granite surfaces. Stainless Steel Sinks

Clean your sink regularly with a mild detergent solution and/or clean water applied with a soft cloth or sponge. Do not leave wet sponges, cloths, cleaning pads, rubber mats, or dishpans in the sink. Do not allow liquid soap or other cleansers to dry on the surface of the sink. Click here for full Stainless Steel Sink Care instructions.
